Shajara Pathways is an access programme designed to encourage, inspire and support Muslim students to apply to Oxbridge. Many young Muslims face unique cultural and social barriers that deter them from aspiring to, or successfully applying to, prestigious universities. These challenges include cultural misconceptions, lack of mentorship and limited access to information about the Oxbridge application process. Our programme targets Muslim students early on in secondary education, providing sustained academic support, guidance and mentorship to build confidence and ambition.
Based on personal challenges applying to Oxford, We wish to simplify the process for those from similar backgrounds. By fostering a supportive community of likeminded individuals that affirms their identity and aspirations, this empowers participants to overcome obstacles and aim higher in their educational journeys. Through access programmes and residentials, outreach workshops, one-to-one mentoring and access to resources tailored specifically for applicants, this aims to increase the number of Muslim students applying to Oxbridge, thereby promoting greater diversity and inclusion in elite higher education. The expected impact is not only to widen participation but also to nurture a generation of bright, brilliant Muslim minds who can contribute meaningfully to academia and society.
